Petroglyphic complex Kalbak-Tash is located on the right bank of the river Chuja 12 km above its confluence with the river Katun' in the Ongudaysky rayon of the Respublika Altaj. The rock massif located at the Chuisky tract is composed of shale rocks. The rock massif with rock carvings has a length of about 500 m.
The uniqueness of the Kalbak-Tash petroglyphs lies in the high concentration of images of different times in a relatively small area. The presented images date from a wide time range: from the Neolithic era to the Middle Ages.
